Membership

The Eugene Figure Skating Club was established in 1991 to promote figure skating in Lane County, Oregon. The EFSC supports skaters of all levels and abilities and provides an opportunity to connect with other figure skaters and skating enthusiasts.

EFSC membership means you are eligible to take USFS tests covering moves in the field, freestyle, dance and pairs to measure your progress as a skater. You will also be able to compete at sanctioned US Figure Skating competitions. The EFSC membership is composed of approximately one hundred skaters and parents. Our board of directors meets once a month and all members are invited to attend. Our current board of directors is:

President Teresa Whittier
Vice President Valerie Keartes
Secretary Sandy Sullivan
Treasurer Susan Belanger
At Large Wendy Guentner
  Carolyn Brown
  Kathy Vogel
Membership Chair Teresa Whittier
USFS Test Chair Wendy Guentner

Our membership year runs July 1 through June 30 coinciding with the US Figure Skating competition season. Dues are $65 per year and include a subscription to the United States Figure Skating Association’s magazine, Skating, which contains articles and information about skating. The EFSC also pays for test pins which a skater earns each time they pass a USFS test. Special discounted memberships are also available for family members. US Figure Skating Membership

U.S. Figure Skating is the official governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States, recognized as such by both the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Skating Union (ISU). As the governing body, U.S. Figure Skating’s mission is to provide programs to encourage participation and achievement in the sport of figure skating. Among other things, U.S. Figure Skating has the authority to regulate and govern the sport in the United States, create rules for the holding of tests, competitions and other activities, and to organize and sponsor competitions for the purpose of stimulating interest in the sport.

The US Figure Skating moves in the field, freestyle, dance and pairs test structures set the standards of proficiency for the sport and are a measurement of a skaters’ progress. US Figure Skating Competitions are a principal incentive for figure skaters to train, develop and improve their proficiency. By ascending the competition “ladder” from regional to sectional and then national championships, skaters gain entry into international figure skating events—among them the Olympic Winter Games and the World Championships.

However, competitive skating is not a requirement of membership in USFS or EFSC. Skaters may take US Figure Skating tests simply for the personal satisfaction of reaching higher levels of proficiency in the sport. Whatever your skating goals, the EFSC and US Figure Skating will help you achieve them!
